Film Study
is a one-semester (two-quarter) elective course which focuses on the viewing, analyzing, discussion, and interpretation of movies/films of various genres and time periods. Being
an elective course it will consist of students from multiple grade levels. There is no required textbook
for class; the instructor will provide students with everything necessary to complete the course. Reading assignments
will be given out at the appropriate time. Students will have the opportunity to watch, write, and
discuss on an almost-daily basis. Students will study different types of film, selecting from such
categories as documentaries, biopics, film noir, melodramas, mysteries, epics, science fiction, comedies, animation,
and more. There will be frequent in-class discussion that will rely on the participation of all students,
and individual opinions, judgments, and ideas are welcome. Due to the nature of this course, all students
are expected to treat one another with respect and handle frank and open discussion in a mature fashion.
